Tutorial for TruePlay

Introduction

TruePlay is a digital version of how a painter designs an image on a digital canvas. The aim of TruePlay is twofold:

  1. To analyze how a human uses the unconscious logical thinking pattern in a problem-solving or decision-making situation. By using a series of random objects in TruePlay, the human will reveal the unconscious logical thinking manner in three phases: 1) create an idea, 2) decide a goal, and 3) solve a problem / make a result.
  2. To inspire a human to learn self-control and self-insight, so the human deliberately opens up for learning a conscious logical inference pattern.

In 2003, Oregon University tested a similar play in an analog version. The digital version “TruePlay” is a result of more than 12 years of research.

Begin the Play by Listening to the Audio File

Click on the green speaker icon for listening to instructions about how to play. If you do not want to listen to the entire audio file, you may press the grey pause icon.

Confirm You Are Over the Age of 18

If you decide to design an image in TruePlay, you will have to put a check mark in the box: “I confirm I am over the age of 18.” You may then begin the play.

The Canvas

You will be presented with a canvas with features such as a toolbar and an object list.

The toolbar is for actions, and the object list is the material.

Please notice the text: there is no good or bad thinking pattern.

Toolbar

The toolbar is organized according to the player actions:

  • You submit your image
  • You may change the form of the objects in: delete, delete all, default, clone, scale/2 (2), scale/2 (0.5), rotate left, rotate right, mirror the object horizontally, mirror the object vertically
  • You take a pause
  • You use Glue stick, and you go back to the design phase by using the unglue hand
  • Speaker, stop speaker

Object List

The object list presents all the arbitrary objects that you can use in your design. Click on the object, and the object will appear on the canvas.

Change the Form of the Object

You can change the form of the object once the object is on the canvas.

The sign of a red square around the object indicates that you can now change the form of the object using the features from the toolbar: delete, delete all, default, clone, scale/2 (2), scale/2 (0.5), rotate left, rotate right, mirror the object horizontally, mirror the object vertically.

The Emoji Bar

The emoji bar will appear on the canvas during the play. You may each time choose 2 emojis to represent your feelings in the process of designing an image in TruePlay.

The emojis are signs of inner feelings. From left to right, the signs symbolize:

  • Sad
  • Content
  • Angry
  • Giving up
  • Disappointed
  • Indifferent
  • Joyous
  • Thoughtful
  • Bored

You cannot use the emojis in the design of an image.

No Signs of Actions in TruePlay for 10 Minutes

If you have been inactive in play for 10 minutes, this prompt will pop up on your canvas:

  • Yes: you end the Play
  • No: you return to the design phase in TruePlay

Submission of Your Image

When you feel your image is fully designed, it is time to submit it.

You can choose to give your image a title (maximum 35 characters). You may either decide your image is:

  • Realistic
  • Abstract

Consent for Your Data

You have three options:

  1. Put a check mark in the box: “Do you want to consent for your data to be used for research purposes?”
  2. Cancel and exit TruePlay
  3. Return to drawing
